what to expect at your first appointment

Our first appointment will be an information gathering intake that will inquire about family dynamics, physical and mental health history, and current stressors/symptoms. In addition, we will go over privacy practices, practice protocols, and payment authorization. These forms will be sent to you in advance to review. This will be about 1 hour.

After the intake, our next session will be getting the therapeutic process going. This can take shape in various ways-

We can discuss current stressors that brought you to therapy, your history, psych education, or coping skills to resolve the immediate distress. These sessions will be 45-60 minutes. We can meet as frequently as you would like. I usually recommend weekly to establish rapport for as long as needed.

a peaceful, compassionate process.

My approach is person centered therapy. This means that I focus on relationship building with each client to provide a safe and transparent space.

I believe in meeting you where you are at and respecting your boundaries. This is a hard process and I want to support you in building up skills to deepen insight, awareness and most importantly promote healing and resiliency.

My counseling style is gentle with a mix of processing and coping skill development. I have training in dialectal behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and the trauma resiliency model. I have taken steps towards certification in maternal mental health through postpartum support international as well as participating in training events, such as: postpartum anxiety, rage, and burnout: compassionate clinical strategies to keep mom and baby safe and thriving; breaking the cycle of unhealthy family relationships: top tools for better boundaries; Pregnancy and infant loss: effective strategies to support grief and treat trauma, anxiety, and depression in bereaved parents.

about amanda

Hi, I’m Amanda. I have been practicing as a licensed mental health counselor since 2019. I specialize in maternal/parental mental health because it is one of the most transformative experiences individuals and families go through together.

I chose this specialty because of my own journey as a new parent during the pandemic, which magnified the gaps in care. I am dedicated to improving this experience for individuals as well as our community. Resilient families raise resilient children.
